I’ve been wanting a dog for our youngest son for about a year. Micah has Down syndrome, and is my motivation for making The French Dog successful.
Finding the right dog for Micah has been more of a struggle than I thought it would be. I had criteria for this dog, such as size and energy levels. These factors were important to me, because the dog had to be a good fit. Our sweet frenchies are amazing dogs, and very loved by Micah, but their flat faces cause breathing issues when playing hard, so their play time is limited. This is sad for all parties involved. Micah needs a dog of his own, that will fetch all day without breaking a sweat. Or dying from lack of oxygen.
While I was at a business conference in Myrtle Beach, I found the dog we were looking for at the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society. I brought a dog home from a business trip, because that’s how I roll.
Fiona, named by Micah, is a petite little lady, clocking in at 10 pounds. She’s a pretty red brindle with white to dress her up, and her stand-up ears fit right in with our frenchie crew. She has beautiful eyes that are the same color as her red coat, and doesnt’ miss a thing. She’s very interested in her world, and very focused on unstuffing stuffed toys. Other than this information, we know nothing about Fiona. She was listed as a “terrier mix,” which I would say is accurate. But I see so much else in her, that may or may not even be there. Basenji, Italian Greyhound, perhaps even chihuahua.
This is where you can win. Leave a comment with your top 3 breed guesses for Fiona’s heritage. We will be DNA testing her to get the low-down on her genetic makeup. The one who guesses closest to the test results will win a $25 shopping spree to spend on anything you want at the store.
